Giants 6-0 Braves (August 15, 2024) Match Report

SAN FRANCISCO — Logan Webb threw seven scoreless innings, Grant McCray had his first career hit and home run and the San Francisco Giants beat the Atlanta Braves 6-0 on Thursday to avoid a sweep.

Thanks to Webb’s performance, the Giants ended a four-game losing streak. The All-Star earned his fourth straight win and held opponents to one run or less in his fourth straight start. He finished at least seven innings for the 14th time this season, more than any other pitcher in the major leagues.

Webb (11-8) threw 104 pitches, had seven strikeouts and held the Braves to four hits. He left the field with runners on the corners and two outs in the eighth inning.

McCray, who went 2-for-3 in his major league debut Wednesday, hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 5-0. With his father, former major leaguer Rodney McCray, watching in the stands, McCray, the Giants’ 11th-ranked prospect, also hit an RBI bunt single in the second inning that scored San Francisco’s first run and his first major league hit.

McCray’s home run followed a two-run blast by Casey Schmitt earlier in the sixth inning that doubled the Giants’ lead from 2-0 to 4-0.

San Francisco scored two runs in the second with all bases loaded and no one out. Tyler Fitzgerald hit a sacrifice fly on McCray’s hit to give the Giants a 2-0 lead.

Braves starter Max Fried (7-7), who pitched into the sixth inning, allowed three runs and struck out five times.
