The Matthew Judon trade is final and official

Linebacker Matthew Judon could have jeopardized the transfer that brought him from the Patriots to the Falcons by refusing to appear for the medical examination on which the transfer was based. was expressly contingent.

He didn’t. He showed it. And he passed. According to the Falcons, the deal is official and final.

That means the Falcons are getting Judon this year for a base salary of $6.5 million. At least one source unaffiliated with either team believes the Falcons gave up a third-round pick for the low salary, and that the size of the pick shows Atlanta has no plans to change anything about the contract.

In every transfer, the team considers two factors. What do we have to give the team and how much do we have to pay the player? The lower the player’s salary, the higher the transfer compensation.

Since Judon was willing to train and play in New England for $6.5 million this year, it’s safe to assume he’ll do the same in Atlanta, especially since he has no real way to force a new contract.

The best thing he could have done was to refuse to attend the medical examination, but he didn’t do that and he probably knows what that means.

This means he will play for the Falcons at his current salary unless they decide to give him a new contract. If they don’t, he will become a free agent in 2025.
