The Cincinnati Bengals were at Halas Hall today for a joint practice with the Chicago Bears, and even though conditions were far from ideal, they stayed out in the rain. Reporters were instructed not to tweet during practice, but the Bengals’ social media team tweeted some clips during practice. Of course, their videos were all positive, but after practice, the truth came out.
Jay Morrison, who covers the Bengals for Pro Football Network, wrote that this may have been one of Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow’s worst practices ever.
“There is no database for official confirmation, but it is doubtful that Joe Burrow has ever thrown three interceptions in practice like he did today.”
The joint practice consisted of a series of 11-on-11 games, and Morrison made 15 of 32 hits for Burrow, with those three interceptions and two passes being defended at the line of scrimmage. He also noticed a lot of drops in the wet conditions.
According to several Cincinnati reporters, the weather did affect the Bengals, but it was also miserable for the Bears.
Chicago’s offense performed much better in the rain, as Caleb Williams came back after his first pass was intercepted in a 7-on-7 game and threw touchdowns to DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze.
The Bears and Bengals meet in a preseason game at Soldier Field on Saturday, and Chicago head coach Matt Eberflus said he plans to use his starters. He did not specify an exact number of snaps, but said the game will determine it.
Eberflus also said those two positions are still up for grabs, although Coleman Shelton (center) and Nate Davis (right guard) have been running with the starters. Ryan Bates, who has been rotating in at center and right guard, remains out with an injury that ‘Flus described as “week to week.”
Here are some more tweets from Halas Hall today.
Greg Stroman and Kevin Byard had interceptions. Gervon Dexter had a PBU at the LOS.
The Bears’ entire starting lineup was involved: Wright, Jenkins, Shelton, Davis and Jones.

#Bears Training is over. It rained the whole time, but they were outside.
Caleb Williams started with an INT at 7-on-7. He rebounded in team drills and threw touchdowns to Keenan Allen and DJ Moore.
The throw to Keenan was a back pylon. Really good throw and really good work…

#Bears– The Bengals’ joint training is over. At times it was pouring with rain. #Bengals suffered two serious injuries that were barely visible. RB Chris Evans and OT D’Ante Smith both required an aircast and were carried off the field.
I saw Burrow vs Bears and the defense won. Nothing happened down the field until…
