DETROIT – It looks like Jazz Chisholm Jr. is avoiding the knife, at least for now.
After the Yankees sought the opinion of several doctors on their new third baseman’s UCL injury, Chisholm was recommended rest and rehab instead of surgery, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed Friday.
The club hopes that Chisholm will be able to play again this season, probably in September.
Chisholm was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday after spraining his left (non-throwing) elbow while jumping to home base in Monday night’s game against the White Sox.
He underwent an MRI on Tuesday, but the Yankees were still waiting for feedback from doctors before making a final plan for their recent trade deadline price.
“I can tell you the Jazz are pretty encouraged by their feelings,” manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday. “So hopefully that’s a good sign.”
Chisholm has been suspended from all baseball activities since Wednesday and Boone is unsure when he will be able to pitch again.
The left-hander – who is under the team’s control until 2026 – immediately gave the Yankees a new lease of life after being signed from the Marlins, hitting seven home runs in 14 games while posting a .316 batting average with an OPS of 1.062.
While Chisholm is out, the Yankees plan to replace him at third base with a mix of Oswaldo Cabrera, DJ LeMahieu and Oswald Peraza.
